Rent a Convertible in Johannesburg

One of the best ways to experience South Africa is by car. Start out by finding a good convertible rental in Johannesburg and then begin your driving tour of this fascinating country. While South Africa is a large country, if you have the time, you can visit all of the wonderful sites and experience a trip of a lifetime. From Johannesburg to Capetown, there is something wonderful to see or do every step along the way.

Located near Capetown, Table Mountain is considered one of the seven wonders of the natural world. The mountain has a flat top located 1470 kilometers above sea level and looks like a table. Visitors can ride a cable car to the top and experience its incredible 360-degree views. Another great attraction in South Africa is the Garden Route National Park, situated along the shores of the Indian Ocean. The park is home to an abundance of wild animals, such as elephants.

Another South African attraction is Port Elizabeth with its many opportunities for water enthusiasts. Robben Island is about seven kilometers from Cape Town and is the location of the infamous prison home of Nelson Mandela. The island is also rich with wildlife and birds.

Other great places to visit when you hire a convertible in Johannesburg are the Alfred and Victoria waterfront in Capetown. This area is located in the historical port area of Cape Town and offers a wide variety of entertainment and shopping attractions. Cape Town is also known for its beaches, such as Penguins Beach which provides visitors a chance to watch penguins as they go about their daily lives.

Venturing back toward Johannesburg, the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO world heritage site consists of an expansive cave system where many ancient fossils were discovered. Another attraction that is a must-see is Kruger National Park, one of the largest in the world consisting of more than 18,000 square kilometers. This huge park is home to more than 500 types of birds, 2,000 types of plants, and innumerable wild animals.

While driving throughout South Africa, always be careful to follow all signs and notices. Most drivers in the country will be courteous and safe, but always drive defensively and carry your driver's license with you at all times. There are four primary types of roads in South Africa and they will usually have a different speed limit. If you see an "N" road, that denotes a national highway or freeway and will usually connect the large cities together. The "M" roads are also highways, but will generally not connect two cities.

"R" routes are the secondary roads and are generally two-lane highways. These roads can go from well-maintained to full of holes in the blink of an eye, so be alert. "D" roads are the local roads, many of which are little more than gravel. As you travel, always be alert and keep your windows up and your doors locked. When you leave your vehicle, lock everything in the trunk so nothing is visible through the windows. Traveling through South Africa by car is considered by most to the be the best way to see the country. Rent a convertible in Johannesburg and enjoy your visit.
