The Best Luxury Cars To Rent In Palermo

Luxury car hire Palermo is the ideal way to see this marvellous city. Palermo is the capital of Sicily and is a hub of culture, history and food. Settlements were built over 2,700 years ago, by the Greeks, but a final city was founded by the Phoenicians who called it Ziz. Palermo comes from the Greek word Panoremus which means 'always fit for landing'. Once the Phoenicians left it became part of the Roman Republic until around 831 Ad, when the city fell to Arab rule and became part of the Emirate of Sicily. In 1072, the Normans conquered and it became capital of the Kingdom of Sicily.

The 5th most populous city in Italy, Palermo is Sicily's cultural and economic capital. Rich in history, culture, art and food, it is also famed for its glorious Mediterranean weather, and tourist pleasures. It offers superb restaurants and a superb nightlife. Luxury car rental Palermo is a great way to discover all the secrets that this amazing city and its surrounds hold. Palermo is one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean and is popular due to its careful redevelopment which made sure that its features were not spoilt by 'progress'.

There are many wonderful historic moments. Palermo Cathedral is the main church and has various architectural styles due to its long history of upgrades. It has a heliometer (a solar observatory) built in 1690 with a tiny hole in mirror domes that acts as a pinhole camera that then projects an image of the sun onto the floor at solar noon (12.00 in winter and 13.00 in summer). With a meridian line and the signs of the zodiac also marked on the floor, the heliometer could measure time and the days of the calendar. This then meant that it could have the same time as St Peter's Basilica in Rome and also the time for the Vernal Equinox and Easter.

San Giovanni degli Eremiti (St John of the Hermits) is close to the Palazzo dei Normanni (The Norman Palace with beautiful Norman architecture); famed for its red domes, this church shows its Arab influences as it was built in the 12th century. Its bell tower however is pure Gothic. Chiesa Della Martorana, aka Saint Mary of the Admiral is another church built in a Greek cross pattern. The church San Caraldo is Norman in style, the San Guiseppe dei Teatini is pure Sicilian Baroque and the Santa Teresa alla Kalsa is Arabic in influence.

With 2 circuits of City Walls many parts still surviving including several gates in the City Wall. Worth looking at, is the awesome Capuchin Catacombs with many mummified bodies still preserved. The biggest theatre in all of Italy, is the Teatro Msssimo (Greatest Theatre) opened in 1897. Enrico Caruso sang La Gioconda when it began, and ended with the Rigoletto in the final days of his career. Hire a luxury car Palermo and marvel at this beautiful city in the finest style.
