Delivery and collection was a hassle-free process and even though I've rented cars several times in my life, this was the best experience so far.

There two types of people in the world - those who have driven a Mercedes Benz and those who will drive and fall in love with the cars from this automotive giant. Of course, there are the day to day people movers such as the run of the mill C Class from the engineers of Stuttgart - and even those are wonderful. Or the A class - which are there to allow the kids to get to school in style. Or the off-roaders that Merc puts out there - and all of the variants are fabulous. The mechanics and engineering are world leading and the style is jaw-dropping.
But then the engineers at Mercedes Benz are allowed to let their hair down. The normally sedate and refined folk on the Board of Mercedes let those engineers go mad. And the resultant mass release is the E63 AMG.
Now, this is not a car that begs you to misbehave. It is Teutonic through and through. It wants you to listen very carefully. And if you do not - it will punish you, but gently. The E63 AMG is not a car that roars. It purrs and waits for that pocket rocket to pull up next to it - and with the right driver behind the wheel - it will eat that neighboring car for breakfast.
The previous version of this car was terrifying. A 4 liter supercharged V8 just made a mockery of the very idea of tires. But this new version is slightly more sedate - but still terrifying quick and powerful for what is after all a rework of a family sedan.
Pick up Brad and Janey from school and listen to that wonderful gurgle of an engine. Let them put them their gym bags in the trunk. Sit them down in the commodious back seat and turn to them - and say 'children, we are going to go very very fast - no crying this time.'
Because make no mistake - the E63 AMG is very, very quick. And very, very powerful. Zero to a refreshing 60 miles an hour in 3.5 seconds - this is not a car to be trifled with. Four doors and all the looks of that family sedan - but beneath that modest exterior lies the belly of a beast.
And that power translates into not only speed - but a creamy handling experience. this is Mercedes at its simple best. This is a car that does not ask you to panic or supervise - it is a car that oozes genius. The suspension is magnificent and the ride is superlative - and that heavy thinking Mercedes technology does not intrude into your enjoyment.
The new E63 AMG is just about as close to perfection as it is possible to come - when balancing everyday functionality with sheer fun. Brad and Janet are going to love it. And you will as well. It's simply Mercedes Benz as it should be - power and luxury.
